Forthcoming Events

Regular Events

These are regular, mostly weekly, events in the area. Most are held in Kilmelford Village Hall, which is 100 metres down the Degnish Road, just south of the village.

KILMELFORD YOUTH CLUB

Kilmelford Youth Club proved a great success for young people living in the Kilmelford, Kilmore, Scammadale and Ardfern areas with youth workers being overwhelmed with the numbers of young people turning up for the two clubs each week to participate in all sorts of activities.

The decision to close the club over the Christmas period in order to complete the disclosure process and recruit more volunteers to help in the day to day running of the club was taken, with the aim to re-open a couple of weeks later. However, the disclosure process has proved to be lengthier than we could have imagined; with many hold-ups along the way. We are however now a recognised club, and will soon be starting the next part of the process.

We are still very keen to recruit more volunteers from the local community so if you can spare a few hours a month, please get in touch with Roanna Taylor 01852 200268.

Playgroup.

The Kilmelford Playgroup is still not functioning due to lack of interest and insufficient numbers to justify its operation. However, the Craignish Parent and Toddler Group now meets every Tuesday from 10 a.m. till 12 noon in Kilmelford Village Hall while the Craignish Village Hall is being rebuilt. The group caters for all pre-school children (babies to 5 year olds) accompanied by a parent and operates during school term times and during half terms. £1.50 per family. The last playgroup this session will be on June 28th and will start again on Ruesday, August 23rd.

During July and August the group organises a programme of “Summer Toddles” (short walks and local outings). Details of these “toddles” will be displayed on the notice boards at Ardfern Village Store and Kilmelford Village Hall. Also in the summer the group is hoping to host a repeat of last year’s very successful “Teddy bears Picnic” which was organised as part of the Elemental Arts Festival. Look in the Festival programme for details.

Another very well attended season culminating in the end of session party on 17th March. Well deserved thanks to Mike for managing to teach us and make the sessions such fun. The autumn start date will be notified in the September newsletter.

These popular sessions take place most Thursdays from 8 p.m. till 10 p.m.

All are welcome, beginners and experts alike. It’s helpful if beginners are able to join at the beginning of the season.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED.

Unfortunately, the Tuesday evening badminton sessions that used to be held throughout the winter and spring have ceased since Mike departed. These sessions for P7 upwards, with the final hour reserved for young adults and older, were always well attended and provided a popular activity during the long winter evenings.

The same situation has arisen with the Wednesday evening indoor football sessions which were also very well attended.

We are now providing very little in the way of activities for the youth in our community. We have the facilities and all that is needed is a few volunteers so that supervision can be arranged on a rota basis.

Please contact Neil Manchester, Chairman of the Kilmelford and Kilninver Community Association, (Tel: 01852 200272) to volunteer the time that you can afford - you don’t have to be able to make a weekly commitment to volunteer your services.
